袈裟切り-Kesagiri

Sensei showed me the Kanji characters for Kesa-giri and I was surprised at how they were characters relating to clothing. I did a bit of research and found that "Kesa" refers to Monks' clothing. The "Kesa" originated in India, but is used in Thailand and other South East asian countries, in addition to Japan. The Kesa-giri cuts along the collar folds as in this picture of Zen monks.
