Bugo 武號
I asked Sensei about Bugo.
When should we use Bugo?
"It's like a nickname, you can call out to people in the Dojo or use it when you send correspondence."
Is it a secret?
"No it's just like a nickname, though people outside the Dojo might not understand the meaning."
A calligraphy friend of mine has a "calligraphy name", is there any relation?
"In Japan when you become a Shidosha you receive a nickname, whether that be in Budo or Calligraphy or Tea Ceremony."
The two characters that make up Bugo are "military/martial" and a second character that combines the Kanji for "number" 号 with that of "tiger" 虎. Pretty cool.
